'Awards celebrate what makes our county special'

Westmeath Examiner Community and Sports Awards

Addressing the gathering as this year’s event began, Cllr Bill Collentine, An Cathaoirleach, Westmeath County Council, told the “ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, nominees, and award recipients” that it was “a pleasure to be with you this evening on behalf of Westmeath County Council, proud sponsors of the Westmeath Examiner Community and Sports Awards”.

He said the event “is a celebration of the things that make our county such a special place to live and belong to”.

“While many of those being recognised have achieved great success on the sports field, these awards are also about something much bigger – community involvement. They recognise the volunteers, coaches, organisers, community groups and local champions whose efforts often take place quietly behind the scenes yet have a lasting impact on the lives of others.

“The strength of any county is found in its people. It is found in those who give their time freely, who encourage others to reach their potential, who build connections within their communities, and who step forward when help is needed.

“These are the qualities that make Westmeath such a vibrant and welcoming county. Westmeath County Council are delighted to support these awards because they provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the exceptional contribution made by so many individuals and organisations throughout our county. Their commitment, dedication and generosity deserve to be acknowledged, and today we do exactly that.

“To all of the nominees, you should be immensely proud of your achievements; to our award winners, congratulations on your well-earned recognition – and to the families, friends, teammates and supporters who have encouraged and supported them along the way, this evening is a celebration of your contribution too.

“On behalf of Westmeath County Council, I thank the Westmeath Examiner for continuing to shine a light on the outstanding people and organisations that strengthen our communities and inspire us all.

“I wish all of our nominees and winners every success in the future, and I hope everyone enjoys what promises to be a wonderful evening of celebration. Thank you.”
