DOGROY: The self crowned King of the Fleadh

There was no shortage of colourful characters at the fleadh last week, but Mullingar's very own DOGROY (aka Enda Hynes) was perhaps the most exotic of all.

Throughout the week, the self crowned King of the fleadh created quite a stir when he walked through Mullingar's packed streets with his "bodyguard", his brother Mark, close-by.

DOGROY will be familiar to those who attend the comedy club in Columbia Bar where novice stand up comic Enda has started performing in recent months.

Enda said that with the fleadh coming he decided his comic alter-ego would be perfect for the role of King.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner last Saturday, he said that he and Mark were having a great time meeting people. DOGROY had also generated a lot of interest from members of the national media, he revealed.

"It's weird, RTÉ, TG4 and Virgin [have filmed us]. Before that it was go down and do a few minutes [in Columbia]. It's weird being on the telly."

When asked where he got the inspiration for DOGROY, Enda said: "It's basically everyone in the town. There's a little bit of everyone in him."

When we caught up with DOGROY he had an important message for the people of Mullingar and the rest of Westmeath.
