Castlepollard Local Development ‘delighted’ with funding allocation

Castlepollard Local Development have had a goal of retaining and refurbishing the Market House for community use since they were established in 2018.

Stephen O’Brien, spokesperson, said: “Despite missing out in an earlier round of funding, we worked with the Westmeath County Council community section and regeneration team to develop an improved proposal.

The successful plan includes the development of a new town park, the regeneration of the Market House and associated works around The Square.

“We worked with Westmeath County Council to gain community support for the project and to encourage engagement in the consultation process that helped to shape it.”

Pointing out that Castlepollard Local Development are a voluntary community group focused on the sustainable development of the town, Stephen said they welcomed the announcement by Minister Heather Humphreys of €4.7m in match funding from the Rural Regeneration Fund to complete the project.

“This a great achievement for Westmeath County Council and a great day for Castlepollard – we look forward to future announcements from the minister for the town.”
