Mainly dry and bright day for the bank holiday

Weather update from Met Éireann

Bank Holiday Monday will bring low cloud and patchy drizzle to Atlantic counties. Drier and brighter elsewhere however with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures will range 8 to 11 degrees, in mostly moderate southerly winds.

Rather cold tonight across the midlands, south and east with perhaps a touch of frost under any longer clearer breaks. Overall cloudy though with some rain and drizzle at times across Atlantic counties. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees in light to moderate southwest breezes.

Mostly cloudy Tuesday morning with patchy rain or drizzle in the west and north sinking southeastwards during the afternoon, all the while fizzling out. Some areas will stay fully dry, though misty conditions may set in. Some hazy sunshine will follow in the clearance across the northwest later. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in mostly calm conditions.

Overall dry on Tuesday night but misty with patches of drizzle. Where clear skies persist some frost will set in. Cold with lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with just light southerly breezes.

Some frosty nights and early mornings, but generally dry with light breezes. Breezier come Wednesday with some rain after dark.

Wednesday will be largely dry for daylight hours, apart from patchy drizzle across the west and northwest. The best of any sunny spells will occur towards the south and east. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees. South to southwest winds will gradually freshen, as a band of rain moves down from the northwest after dark. Some frost and ice is likely later under clearing skies. Lowest temperatures of -2 to + 2 degrees, in moderating westerly breezes.

A cold and frosty or icy start is expected on Thursday but with good sunshine too. Most areas will stay dry with just light westerly breezes, though a few passing showers will occur across northern counties. Cool but pleasant with highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees. Some frost early in the night, ahead of increasing cloud and patchy drizzle, mainly across the west. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees, in moderate southwest winds.

Friday is expected rather dull and breezy with low cloud and patchy drizzle in the west and northwest. Some sunny spells likely too though across the midlands and east. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Next weekend will be mostly frost free. Most areas staying dry, except for southern counties.
