Good deal of dry weather in the days ahead

Weather update from Met Éireann

A good deal of dry weather overall with light to moderate winds. So says the latest weather bulletin from Met Éireann.

Largely dry this morning with just a few patches of light rain or drizzle. There will be spells of sunshine, especially in eastern and southern counties. Becoming breezy as southwesterly winds increase fresh to strong and gusty, strongest in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees. A band of rain will move into the northwest late this afternoon, moving southeastwards over the country during the evening, becoming patchier as it does so. Turning colder with winds veering northwesterly and moderating as the rain clears.

Tonight, the last of the rain in the south and southeast will clear away quickly, becoming mostly dry, clear and cold. A few showers will move in to the north and northwest later as cloud builds there. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees, coldest generally in the midlands, south and southeast, with frost developing with some icy stretches possible. Westerly winds will be mostly light to moderate westerly but fresher near west and northwest coasts.

Tomorrow will be dry for most with spells of sunshine. Cloudier though in parts of the north and west with a few showers, clearing by evening. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in mostly light to moderate west to southwest winds, fresher near northern coasts in the morning.

After a mostly clear start to Thursday night, cloud will gradually build from the west with patchy light rain or drizzle developing in parts of the north, west and far southwest. Staying largely dry elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest in the south and southeast. Light to moderate southwesterly winds will be fresher at times in the northwest.

Friday will be largely cloudy but there will be some hazy sunny spells. Overall, a good deal of dry weather but there will be a few outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at times, driest generally in the south and east. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresher along northern coasts.

Continuing mostly cloudy Friday night with limited clear spells. Dry for most with just isolated patches of light rain or drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees generally in mostly light southwesterly breezes with some mist and hill fog developing.

A good deal of cloud will remain on Saturday with some occasional sunny spells mixed in. Staying dry for most though some patchy light rain and drizzle is expected. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest breezes. Staying much the same overnight with temperatures falling to between 3 and 7 degrees.

Sunday will stay mostly dry albeit cloudy though patchy rain and drizzle will continue. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southeast breezes.

Further Outlook: A good deal of uncertainty in the forecast for early next week but current indications suggest that it will turn more unsettled.
