Silver medal for Peadar's Bar at prestigious awards

Hot on the heels of winning the overall award as the most Dog Friendly Bar in Ireland at the 2022 Bar of the Year awards, Peadar's Bar in Moate has racked up another award by being named as runner-up in the Local Bar of the Year category at the 2023 awards.

The awards, which were presented at a gala dinner in the Clayton Hotel in Dublin last night (Monday) by radio personality Anton Savage, saw Cork bar, Paladar, take the overall award for Bar of the Year.

Peadar's Bar was up against some stiff competition from at least another dozen bars from around the country in the Local Bar of the Year category, including the Black Forge Inn, which is owned by MMA fighter, Conor McGregor. To scoop the silver medal against such intense competition is a major coup for proprietors of the 'old world' Moate establishment, which is owned and operated by Peter Scully and Alan Conroy and their team.

Ironically, one of the finalists in the Local Bar of the Year category was Gertie Brownes Bar and Bistro, which is also operated by Peter Scully and Alan Conroy.

Peadar's Bar was nominated in no less than four separate categories in the 2023 Bar of the Year awards, including Best Value Bar; Traditional Bar of the Year and Outside Space of the Year.

Gertie Brownes was also shortlisted for four awards, including Tourist Bar of the Year, Gastro Pub of the Year and Bar Food of the Year, along with being shortlisted in the Local Bar of the Year category. The Wineport Lodge in Glasson was also among the local bars shortlisted for an award.

The 2023 Bar of the Year awards attracted 600 entries from all over the country, which is the largest number of entries to date.
