Pool project must maintain momentum, says action group

The next six months will be critical in the delivery of a new fit for purpose swimming pool and sports complex for Mullingar.

That's according to the Mullingar Pool Action Group (MPAG), which held a meeting in the Greville Arms last Monday evening, their first meeting since Westmeath County Council putting the design and planning phase of the proposed new sports complex out to tender. It is believed that the project has generated a lot of interest with a number of firms tendering bids.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, a spokesperson for the group said that it is important that the momentum gained over the past year is maintained.

"Obviously the next six months will be critical. MPAG are looking forward to seeing the proposed new designs when agreed upon by Westmeath County Council. We hope that they will reflect the current and future needs of the greater Mullingar community. Getting an appropriate design that serves our community best will be so important.

"It is worth acknowledging the hard work done by Westmeath County Council, our local TD representatives and councillors in moving this project along. MPAG is but one stakeholder in this process but there is now a clear road map that will involve many of our local sporting clubs to view the design and have their say by way of public consultation and their input and submissions will be hugely important."
