Kinnegad historian and author launches book tomorrow

This week marks a literary milestone for Kinnegad historian and author Derek Molyneaux as he prepares to launch the final instalment of his acclaimed series on Ireland's revolutionary period.

Derek, alongside his long-time friend and co-author Darren Kelly, will officially launch 'Many of Our Best Lie There' at Chapters Bookshop on Parnell Street, Dublin, bringing to a close an ambitious six-book journey that has captivated readers of Irish military history for more than a decade.

The launch marks the culmination of an extraordinary collaboration that began with a spontaneous Sunday morning phone call and evolved into one of the country's most successful historical publishing projects. Since the release of 'When the Clock Struck in 1916' back in 2015, the pair have built a loyal following through their vivid, meticulously researched accounts of the Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War.

The occasion represents the completion of a remarkable literary achievement documenting the turbulent period of Irish history..

The authors' distinctive style, combining scholarly research with fast-paced storytelling, has earned widespread praise from historians and readers alike. Their books are known for placing readers at the heart of the action, recreating the realities of conflict with striking detail while remaining grounded in extensive archival research.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Mr Molyneaux said the success of the series has been driven by friendship as much as historical passion.

“This is the last book in this incredible and unprecedented series about Ireland's uniquely remarkable revolution,” he said. “We love meeting our readers and we'd like to thank everyone who has supported our work throughout all these years.”

The public launch at Chapters Bookshop will be followed by an evening celebration at Wynn's Hotel, where the authors will host a book reading and meet supporters who have followed the series from its beginning.

The event is a fitting finale to a project that has showcased the talent and dedication of the local author whose work has helped shape modern understanding of one of the most significant periods in Irish history.
