Dr Amelie Dochy has just published a new book about the well known Scottish painter who resided at Clonave on the Shores of Lough Derravaragh. She will explore Nicol’s Westmeath work at the workshop on Saturday.

A free history workshop takes place in the Greville Arms Hotel tomorrow, Saturday 10 October, from 9am.

Four speakers will explore research approaches in a variety of fields. Dr Ciaran McCabe is a social historian and he will share successful approaches in this important area.

Dr Mary Shine Thompson’s talk will explore how published literature in Westmeath can be used to illuminate local studies projects. Paul Gosling is an archaeologist with a specialism in cartography, and he will explore historical Westmeath maps and suggest their utility.

Dr Amelie Dochy lectures in Toulouse University; she has published a new book on the Scottish artist Erskine Nicol who had a holiday home in Clonave on the shores of Lough Derravaragh.

She will explore historical Westmeath paintings as a source for historians. All presentations are free and refreshments will be available. The event is hosted by the Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society.
