Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn celebrates new playground and local support

“Ní neart go cur le chéile” (there is strength in unity) and Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn has seen this motto brought to life with the installation of its new playground equipment over the summer.

The new equipment is already proving a big hit with pupils, offering more opportunities for play, exercise and socialising. Is mór an t-áthas atá ar na daltaí leis an trealamh nua súgartha seo atá acu.

The project is the result of a huge collective effort by the school community, and fundraising throughout the last school year. The campaign culminated in a successful static cycle last June, which received tremendous support from parents, families and the wider Mullingar community.

A special word of thanks goes to Mullingar Lions Club and Mullingar Rotary Club, whose generous donations helped make the project a reality and ensured that the equipment could be installed in time for the new school year.

Gabhann an scoil buíochas ó chroí leis an dá chlub as a dtacaíocht fhlaithiúil. Thug na síntiúis borradh fáilteach don tionscadal agus anois tá daltaí na scoile ag baint sult as an trealamh nua.

The school was delighted to showcase the new playground to families and visitors at its open morning on Saturday, celebrating what can be achieved when a community works together towards a common goal.

The principal and staff of Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn wish to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaign, gave their time, made a donation or supported the project in any way. Tá an scoil fíorbhuíoch as an tacaíocht iontach a fuair sí ón bpobal áitiúil.

The new playground is a welcome addition to the school and a lasting reminder of the generosity, teamwork and community spirit that made it possible.

Ní neart go cur le chéile!

Members of the Rotary Club and Lions Club were present on Saturday morning during the open day to see how the equipment they helped fund is being used. Pat Webb from Mullingar Rotary explained that the club have a history of more than 50 years and raising money locally is central to that. Their main fundraisers are the Remembrance Tree at Christmas (run in conjunction with North Westmeath Hospice) and a golf event every June.

“The proceeds we raise are given very generously by people here in Mullingar, and we look to find worthy causes and make donations to local charities here, schools, organisations that are in need of funding.

“We were delighted to get involved here with Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn in providing equipment for their playground,” Pat said.

Representing the Lions Club, David Coughlan said: “As part of our wellness and wellbeing projects, we got involved with the school and are very happy to have contributed to them to help them get the playground in place for this season.

"We met with everybody last May, June and, based on the information we received from Bríd as the principal, and our own thoughts, we got involved. This is the third school we’ve now got involved with, not only in playgrounds, but in sensory rooms as well, so, we’re very happy to help.”

Mullingar Lion Club have also supported St Kenny NS (for a sensory room) and have donated funds to the Women’s Community Projects, who are working on a sensory room to add to their facilities.
