Blueballs members meet at the diving boards on Lough Owel every Wednesday evening.

Four Blueballs branches join forces for Movember campaign

This November, four branches of the Blueballs movement are working together to support and promote the aims of the international Movember campaign.

Events and activities being planned include cold-water dips, walks, social gatherings and other more, with the common purpose of raising awareness of the physical and mental health challenges facing men today.

Blueballs Midlands will host the other three branches at various stages throughout November.

While Movember is perhaps best known for the mustache campaign, the message behind it reaches further. It provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of men’s mental health, support those who have experienced or are living with testicular and prostate cancer, and raise awareness of other health issues that affect men throughout their lives.

The Blueballs movement has grown around the belief that creating an environment where men feel comfortable talking and providing a listening ear without judgement can make a difference.

Not every man will experience mental health difficulties, and not every man will face a cancer diagnosis. But every man knows someone who might. Behind every statistic is an individual, a family and a story that deserves to be heard.

A spokesperson for Blueballs Midlands said: “We come from different communities and different walks of life, but we share a common purpose. Our campaign is about more than growing a moustache or organising a few events – it’s about creating awareness, encouraging conversations and reminding men that they don’t have to face challenges alone.

“Whether someone is dealing with mental health struggles, has experienced testicular or prostate cancer, or is simply finding the pressures of everyday life difficult, there should always be somewhere they can turn and someone willing to listen.

“We want November to be a celebration of community, friendship, solidarity and, most importantly, men’s health.”

Further details of individual events and activities will be announced throughout the month.
