Eastenders actor joining bike trip through town
Ireland’s largest and longest motorcycle event, the Annual Axa/Aon Across Ireland race will take place in August for the 11th consecutive year. The chosen charity for 2010 is Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Ireland., and once again AXA and AON have set out to organise a super weekend of biking, entertainment, prizes, and fun for all to have in aid of a very worthy cause.The race will kick off from the Lord Mayor’s Mansion House on Dawson Street, Dublin on Saturday 28th August at 1:00pm and it will arrive in Eyre Square, Galway on Sunday 29th August between 5:50pm-6:00pm. The two day event will be fully marshalled and escorted throughout, by the Garda Traffic Corp from Dublin to Galway on the Saturday and returning again under escort on the Sunday.This year, Eastenders actor David Proud will join the bikers to raise awareness for this great cause.David who has Spina Bifida, played the bad boy Adam Best in the hit soap show.David and the rest of the 1,100 bikers will make a number of stops along their route, including a ride through Clonard, Kinnegad, Coralstown, Mullingar - where they will have their first collection point, Rochfortbridge, Tyrrellspass, Kilbeggan, Horseleap and then on to Moate and Athlone. Since 1968 Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland has been working with people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus to improve the quality of their lives on a practical level. The incidence of Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus in Ireland is the second highest in the world. On average, 75 babies are being born each year with Spina Bifida and approximately 80 percent of those born have some degree of Hydrocephalus.
