Reaffirming faith in presence of Jesus in the Eucharist
Corpus Christi Procession in Castlepollard
“In all the parishes, we’re trying to reaffirm the faith of the people in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, so we’re trying to have Corpus Christi processions,” said Fr Patrick Moore, PP, Castlepollard. Speaking on Sunday after the Corpus Christi procession at St Michael’s Church, Fr Moore expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped make the event a success.
“I would just like to thank the people that came out, about 150, it was very good of them to stay, and they were very reverent and respectful. And the parents of the First Communion children who came, I thank them as well, and the parents of the servers who came. I’m very grateful to all of them and to our choir, as well as the people who helped us organise it.” The procession took place after 11.30am Mass. It followed a route from St Michael’s Church to the grotto and back, and it concluded with benediction.
Though rain threatened before the event, the sun shone throughout, as Fr Moore, and Fr Marius Cojan, led the way with the Blessed Sacrament beneath a canopy.
The Corpus Christi procession in Mullingar on Sunday was the first in many years, but Fr Moore has kept the tradition going in Castlepollard, and even during the restriction of the Covid-19 pandemic, he was driven around the town on the back of a lorry, delivering blessings as he went.
