Just a few minutes ago, the lead troupe who ran the Pieta Darkness into Light walk in aid of Pieta House, arrived back at Columb Barracks in Mullingar, and as we write, arriving back are the estimated 2,000 walkers who also participated.
A downpour that was taking place just before the 4.15 am start ended in good time, giving the participants the benefit of mild temperatures and dry weather for the 5km trek which took them up Dominick Street, down Mary Street, along Bishopsgate Street, onto Harbour Road, across through St Finian's School, and back to Columb Barracks.
The start ribbon was cut jointly by Deputy Robert Troy with Tommy Carr.
Pieta House is Ireland's suicide and self-harm crisis centre, and many of those who took part have been affected by the issues dealt with by Pieta House.
