German based Mullingar opera singer featured in new documentary

A young opera singer from Westmeath is one of the stars of a new documentary released to coincide with World Opera Day.

Soprano Sarah Brady is one of Staatsoper Hannover's newest recruits and is one of three singers featured in the opera company's new video. The video is one of seven released by opera companies from around the world to celebrate World Opera Day, which took place on October 25.

A native of Mullingar, Sarah went to school in Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn and St Finian's College. In the documentary, she and the other featured singers discuss how they balance the demands of rehearsing and performing with their other passions.

Sarah performs a piece from Britten and speaks about her love of animals, and horse riding in particular, which she attributes to the time she spent as a child on her grandparents' farm.
