Mcgee goes from strength to strength in isle of man

Mullingar motorcyclist Derek McGee is on course to finish the 2015 Isle of Man TT as the event's overall best newcomer.

The Knockdrin #86 is going from strength to strength as race week progresses on the island circuit, as he crossed the line in 19th position after yesterday's Monster Energy Supersport TT (Race 2).

The Honda/Wilson Craig rider finished in 1:15:41.575, just 33 seconds shy of the silver TT replica trophy places. The result marked a 51-second improvement over his finish in Monday's Race 1, earning him the top newcomer plaudit.

McGee has been consistent in this regard, thriving during practice week before achieving fastest newcomer in his first race on Sunday last - the RST Superbike TT.

Both Supersport TT races were clinched by Englishman Ian Hutchinson, completing an IOMTT hat-trick for the man known as the 'Bingley Bullett' - five years after he nearly lost his leg in an horrific accident at Silverstone.

The 'Mullingar Missile' also finished 27th in the RL360° Superstock TT on Monday, and tomorrow (Friday), he will finish race week by taking to the road on board his Wogan/McGee Kawasaki for the Bennetts Lightweight TT, before reverting to his Honda/Wilson Craig machine for the blue riband PokerStars Senior TT.

Posting on his Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, it’s evident that McGee is in his element in what is one of the world’s most prestigious motorcycle events.

"I'm learning something new every lap and really enjoying the track," he said.
