The following are the results from the card game held on Monday night last the 12th of October where raffle winners were: €15, Simon Boland; €10, Jer Cooney; €10, Michael Lennon.The winners on 13 games were John Ward and Mickey Carroll and they received €40. Next on 8 games were Simon Boland and John Galvin who received €20. The table prize winners were Jimmy and Monica Sheerin, Jer Cooney and Cepie Egan, Joe Malone and Carmel Looram and each couple received €10.Well done to all of the winners. An appeal is currently being made to all card players to support the local and weekly game in order for it to be able to continue.SympathySincere sympathy is extended to Carmel Reid, Killale following the death of her mother, Elizabeth Keyes, Cappinarrow, Camross, Portlaoise.Elizabeth passed away on the 5th of October in the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, Her remains were removed from Burke's Funeral Home in Mountrath on Tuesday the 6th of October to St Fergal's Church, Camross and Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11am on Wednesday and burial took place afterwards.Deepest sympathy to Carmel and Dan and family on the loss of a mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Sympathy to all of the Keyes Family. .Sincere sympathy is extended to Larry Galvin, Ardnurcher, Horseleap on the death of his brother-in-law, Michael Conroy, Deerpark, Ballycumber who passed away on the 11th of October in the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.Michael was known in the locality as he used to play cards and often in the Centre. His removal took place from his home to St Patrick's Church, The Island on Tuesday and Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday. Sympathy to his wife and sons, daughter and all of his relatives and friends.Annual table quizAgain the time is flying by and it's hard to believe that the time is approaching for the annual table quiz and auction that Darragh Fallon and family from Creeve organise.This event is in aid of the Caring for Kids Project which helps sick and orphaned children in Ireland, Belarus and Vietnam. This event last year raised €5877.It was as part of this project that Ciara Fallon visited the Mai Tam centre in Vietnam, while out there volunteering and will be able to give a report and show photos first hand from her experience there. The table quiz with auction will take place in Ryan's of Horseleap on Friday the 6th of November at 9pm sharp. Your kind support greatly appreciated.Shoe BoxesThis Wednesday night the 21st of October has been fixed for collection and filling of the shoe boxes for this area from 8pm to 10pm and it is anticipated that as many as possible will be able to come along and give a helping hand for this worthy cause. This is a voluntary but very worthwhile and satisfying project that the area has been involved in for the last few years. Please accept this as an open invitation to anyone who can spare the time to come and help out. A consignment of goods for filling the boxes has been received, and sweets and some art material are all of the basics that are missing. The national closing date is the 11th of November for shoe box collection in Ireland.Over the past 6 or 7 years this area has been involved in helping to bring a smile to children on Christmas Day. The cost for transporting of the box remains at €3 and the contents of the boxes are as previous. If anyone would like to be part of this project call or text Concepta Egan on 0862422540Set Dancing ClassesThe set dancing classes continue in the Community Centre from 8.30pm to 10pm on Thursday nights all are welcome and partners are not required, so come along to learn the steps and have some fun a well.Ladies' footballOn Sunday the 11th of October the Streamstown Ladies Football team travelled to Malahide in Dublin to participate in a national blitz. There were 42 teams taking part and the Horseleap/Streamstown ladies did very well, fielding two 9-a-side teams where they won three out of four and four out of five matches. This was an exceptional achievement for the ladies and a great and very enjoyable day was had by all. A special "Thank You" to all who helped make this day happen. The teams were Deirdre Ann Nally, Helen Kelly, Ber Watts, Teanna Watts, Sarah Moran, Sarah Watts, Evelyn Keegan, Corrina Corcoran, Leona McCormack, Anna Maria McDonnell, Joanne Byrne, Catriona Lynam, Brenda Watts, Dessie Watts, Siobhan Seery, Siobhan McCormack, Emma Casey, Louise Martin, and Maria McDonnell.
