More space for staff and students at Castletown

School may be over for the Summer - but pupils attending Castletown Geoghegan NS this Autumn - will no longer be in surroundings as cramped as they have been, thanks to the completion of a brand new extension at the school.

On Thursday last, pupils, past-pupils and parents joined the school staff to see local PP, Fr. Seamus Giles, perform a blessing of the new classroom, and of the new staffroom.

Principal, Frank Mescall, admitted teachers were delighted that there has been a new staffroom provided: up to this, the only place for teachers to sit and have a cup of tea was in the small and busy school office - where the school secretary also had to work, and find space for all the school's records and paperwork.

There was a festive air around the school on Thursday evening in advance of the unveiling, and the crowds - fortunate that the event was taking place during the current spell of warm sunny weather - enjoyed the novelty of a barbecue on the school grounds as part of the festivities.
