Scally confident before nys clash with galway

The New York football team's Westmeath born captain is in confident mood ahead this Sunday's Connacht Championship clash against Galway in Gaelic Park.

After disappointing defeats to Mayo and Leitrim in recent years, former Tyrrellspass and Westmeath star Keith Scally believes that the New York team can make an impact in this year's competition.

Despite another big turnover of players this year, he says the arrival of players such as former Wexford forward PJ Banville have strengthened the team.

"Probably the biggest difference, year to year, is getting used to a new team. There's a big turnover of players. Every year you don't know who is going to be in the dressing room beside you.

"With the lads that have stayed on from last year's panel, when you are adding lads like PJ, Niall McFeely, Darren Freeman, to name a few, it does make you feel like you are heading in the right direction out here.

"It gives us great belief that we have the quality to make waves in this Connacht Championship," he told the Irish Independent.
