Delays this morning as N4 junctions affected by works

We have heard reports this morning of long delays on the N4 coming in to Mullingar from the east.

AA Roadwatch has this note on its website: WESTMEATH: Lane closures will be in place for works on both sides of the N4 between J14 The Downs and J17 Mullingar West from today (31st) until Friday (4th) between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

In mid-May, we reported the following in the Westmeath Examiner.

Sections of the N4 at the junctions around Mullingar are to close in June and early July to facilitate roadworks.

Westmeath County Council has announced its “intention” to close to through traffic, between 6am and 8pm, for no more than two days per direction, the following: the N4 Eastbound between the off-slip and on-slip at Junction 17 (the R394 for Castlepollard); the N4 east and westbound between the off-slip and on-slip at Junction 15 (N52 for Tullamore); the N4 east and westbound between the off-slip and on-slip at Junction 16 (N52 for Delvin); and the N4 Junction 15 eastbound on-slip

Also, the N4 westbound between the off-slip and on-slip at Junction 17 will be closed between 6am and 8pm for no more than four days and five nights.

The closures are during the period Monday May 31 to Friday July 9 next.

At J17, traffic will be diverted to the off-slip and rejoin the N4 using the on-slip (an up and over diversion).

At J15, traffic will be diverted westbound on the N4 and exit at J16, where drivers will be diverted back to the N4 eastbound.

A map indicating the location of the road closure and the diversions to be put in place may be viewed at westmeathcoco.ie. Submissions on the proposed closures should be lodged before 9am on Friday May 14 next.
