Robbie McCarthy Snr brings silvermedal to Westmeath

Robbie McCarthy Snr travelled to Na Fianna GAA Handball Club in Dublin on Wednesday to compete against his Worlds Doubles partner Mick Dowling of Kildare in the Leinster DMAS Softball Final.

The Westmeath supporters were out in force and were treated to a great exhibition with a thrilling tiebreaker match.

While Robbie lost out considerably in the first game, he was well warmed up for game two, fighting for every point on the card. At one game all, it was anybody’s for the taking as the pair stepped back on court for one of the controversial 11-point tiebreakers.

It was neck and neck until the pair got to six all before Dowling shot off on a roll and finished out the tiebreaker with the most perfect roll out.

It is always a tough one to call when it comes to a McCarthy/Dowling final, but on this occasion, it went to Kildare.

Congratulations to Robbie Snr on his Leinster silver medal from all in Westmeath Handball. We must also express our thanks to Na Fianna for hosting and Frank Daly for refereeing.

Mullingar Handball Club signed up to the Club Iontach accreditation earlier this year and have been making improvements in all aspects for the last number of months.

This week, they were kindly offered and presented a CarePlus First Aid kit for their Club with all the necessary supplies included from Woods CarePlus. The First Aid Kit was presented to Natasha Patrizi by members of the Woods CarePlus team, Eithne and John.

When we had a look at the photo, we immediately recognised a previous Westmeath Champion! It just so happens that John is a member of the famous O’Shaughnessy clan hailing from Delvin Handball Club and has multiple All-Ireland and world handball titles.

A sincere thank you to all in Woods CarePlus for their support from all in Mullingar and Westmeath Handball.
