Local schools enjoy biodiversity workshops at Dún na Sí in Moate

Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park organised six biodiversity workshops for local schools recently. The workshops were carried out by local ecologist George Smith from Blackthorn Ecology, and took place from Wednesday, September 28 to Tuesday, October 4.

Sixth class students from St Oliver Plunkett Boys NS, Moate; St Brigid's NS, Moate and Tubber NS took part, along with fifth class students from An Grianan NS, Mount Temple and fifth and sixth classes from Castledaly NS.

Transition Years from Moate CS also participated in a workshop. George provided great insight into the importance and biodiversity of the turlough. He also educated the students about the surrounding flora and the wildlife in the area.

Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park would like to thank the Community Water Development Fund which funded these workshops. A huge thank you to all the schools who took part and especially to George Smith who delivered such an informative and hands-on workshop. It was enjoyed by all.
