Mullingar teen to compete at European Championships

Mullingar teenager Cadhla Gilhooley has been selected to represent Ireland in Mixed Martial Arts at the 2024 European Youth Championships in Serbia over Easter weekend.

The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) is overseeing the championships which will run from March 29 to April 6. Hosted by the Serbian MMA Federation (MMA Saveza Srbije), IMMAF returns to the capital city of Belgrade for this eagerly awaited event.

Being chosen is a significant honour and great achievement for Cadhla, who trains for two hours each day in the Relentless Martial Arts Club in Mullingar under head coaches Danni and Alan McCormack.

It’s the third successive year in which Cadhla has been selected to represent her gym, town and country on the world stage and she is wished every success.

Cadhla has been sponsored by The Crossed Keys, Mullingar for these championships as there is no funding supplied by any Irish sporting organisation.

Cadhla is delighted to receive the support of The Croosed Keys, Mullingar. She is pictured here (centre) with Ronan Walsh and Nora Gilhooley of The Crossed Keys.

Cadhla’s mum, Sharon, is extremely grateful to The Crossed Keys for their generous sponsorship.

“It’s phenomenal that a local business has given Cadhla the chance to shine at the European championships and she will endeavour to do so,” she said.

Youth competition will open proceedings across the first three days of this year’s event.
