Proud evening for Millmore Gaels as U15 and U17 stars honoured

Jason Sherlock spoke of the importance of a support network for young footballers when he addressed the gathering at the Millmore Gaels medals presentation for the U15 and U17 football stars, in Ballymore Community Centre on Friday evening.

His advice to the young people was to learn from the elite players in the county, listen closely to the message at training, practice the skills of kicking and hand-passing and enjoy the sport. "It's about having fun and making friends. You will lose a lot more matches that you win, but you will make great friends along the way," he remarked. The former Dublin star is a current member of the Westmeath senior football management team.

There were also words of encouragement from John Keane, Westmeath senior football coach, and senior footballers James Dolan and Conor Dillon. John Keane praised all mentors involved and stressed the significant role they play in the development of young players. James Dolan's advice focused on developing both left and right side at a young age, skills that will stand to players as they journey onwards in the game. Conor Dillon complimented all involved with the Millmore Gaels setup and said he was proud to be back at another presentation evening a year on from the previous one.

Mick Dillon, U15 coach, praised the work ethic of the young players, as did Damien Byrne and Ciaran McCormack. Mick Kiernan spoke of the fine achievement by the club's U17 footballers. He was assisted by Johnny Duncan with the successful side. Ailish Reilly, chairperson of Millmore Gaels, paid tribute to all involved with the club and pointed to the crucial role played by the parents. She reserved special praise for Johnny Duncan's many years of commitment to the club.
